48hourfilm »

this is based on allowing artists to build sets in the gallery. Or maybe use the same space within the gallery, but have a choice of objects or props. These props could be borrowed from the community and peer orgs (think crazy things like Jeff’s electric chair). Open call for objects (hehe). then we hold a public (or juried) film competition which can either be viewed here or in a cinema. The proposal/application process could be pretty open because so much is taken care of within the 48 hours.

Cleveland-based collaborative in prep for Visitor's bureau »

Not crazy about his work, but it inspired a kind of collaborative, possible aesthetically pleasing type of project that grows. I saw this and thought maybe this would be a way to draw more classes, groups in and keep them coming back if we were to collect pieces of Cleveland (maybe even assign categories (health, environment, politics, style, etc) and have them catalogued in some way. Corny, yes, but maybe even a time capsule.

Art” can be unimportant and still allow for the experience of a work of art to be life-changing. I value the memories I have of listening to baseball games on my grandparents’ porch, but Baseball, as a concept, remains entirely unimportant. Such concepts as baseball, art, and Hickey’s example of rock and roll, are wholly unimportant except for the experiences they foster and the history to which they contribute.
